Went to see ‘The Merchant of Venice” this week at the flicks. Ahh the memories of high school English and memorizing patches of verse.
“Hath not a Jew eyes? If you prick us do we not bleed? If you poison us do we not die?” That was about all that I remembered from the play because I recited Shylock’s monologue to my English class for my assesment, I had even forgotten the twist at the end of the tale for Shylock and Antonio. The whole story seems a bit cruel to me based upon my modern sensibilities but for the time it seems like a very just and moral tale.
Movie: The Merchant of Venice
Verdict: The actors clearly had fun with this recreation of Shakespeare, and it was fun to watch as well even if the English is a bit too stilted at points.
