Hacking at The Leaves of Evil

Seems very much as if Lebanon is the meat in the sandwich between bigger players in the middle east. I can’t help thinking that Israel’s actions will be counterproductive in the longer term. Hizballah is apparently is much better armed and more powerful than the Lebanese military which reflects who they are being backed by. The actions of the Hizballah reflect the ugly intentions of Iran and Syria, the Iranian crazy in charge of his country has even said Israel should be wiped off the map… Can’t remember where I might have heard that before? …
Israel’s present punishment of Lebanon are winning themselves very few friends however, and might even be viewed as acts of weakness rather than strength.
Sad as it is the best solution for long term peace in the region could be regime dismantling in Syria and Iran, the best way being from their own empowered populations, but failing that direct military action. It’s one mixed up part of the planet and I just have this opinion that piece meal approaches and skirmishes will only continue to enflame future conflicts when they arrive, heaven help us when/if we see nuclear capable organisations in this region.
…This attack was well planned by the Syrian-Iranian axis. For the past 6 months, the Syrians have been arming the Palestinian militias with heavy weaponry, whilst Hizballah with the co-operation of Michel Aoun fought off attempts to disarm it. This attack has distracted the attention from the international community from Iran’s nuclear ambitions. At the same time, if there is a better time to start a war with Israel, now is the time while the US are bogged down in Iraq and incapable of assisting Israel to their full extent. If a regional war is launched, there is a very good chance the Syria-Iran axis may triumph, if no European nation intervenes, and Syria may regain the Golan, at the expense of an annihilated Lebanon, which is always the case.
As a side note it’s no surprise at all that Australia’s efforts evacuating our nationals has been less than stellar, any enterpise connected with Alexander Downer is bound to have a large measure of buffoonery associated with it.
