Australian Visa Application – The Stupid Test
Character Declarations:
Have you ever:
committed, or been involved in the commission of war crimes against humanity or human rights?
been involved in any activities that would represent a risk to Australian national security?

Actually those phrases are specifically put in there for a reason … it is a legal document, so if you are found to have lied on it – the government has an immediate right to prosecute (or at least deport) you immediately.
It’s not there to catch criminals (although I guess some might hope it would) – it’s there to make it easier to do something about them if they do catch them later.

Hi Sim,
Good legal point.
I guess my point was it will only keep out the stupid terrorists, not the smart ones. Though I didn’t make it convincingly.
Frankly if you bring a working age citizen to Australia who is going to be a taxpayer I reckon the government should be giving you a trailing commission rather than having to pay an application fee and go through the fine detail they put you through.
